This session will provide participants with a framework for promoting student-led inquiry in elementary and secondary classrooms. Inquiry-based and project-based learning are student-centered and active approaches that focus on questioning, critical thinking, collaboration and problem solving. We will look at effective strategies to cultivate curiosity, build student understanding and ownership of their learning, and provide entry points for all learners. Design thinking elements including empathy, identifying real world problems, open-ended challenges, student voice and choice, authenticity, and a public product will also be discussed. This session will focus on ways to integrate G Suite for Education, Chrome extensions, web apps, and iPad creation apps to support inquiry and design thinking. During the session, we will also discuss strategies for students to reflect and provide peer feedback throughout the process. Participants will walk away with hands-on experiences, sample lessons and resources, and classroom applications.
